What to Play When You Pray
Posted on March 2nd, 2011 by adamdiehlThis month’s Skill Crafting tip comes from worship leader Jaime Brown of www.worthilymagnify.com. I picked this video to feature on www.cmiworship.com because I’ve actually had pastors ask me, “Adam, how can I get my worship team to play appropriately during a prayer?!” Jaime is spot-on! Check it out.

How about unplugging everything for the moments of transitional or pastoral prayer? Do we have to have anything going on in these moments?
Just thinking.

Great thought Bruce. My answer to that is: “NO!!” Absolutely not do we HAVE to have something going on in these moments.
But I think in all of it – it should be intentional, artistic, and flowful. (I just made up a word- “flowful” … if that catches on – remember where you heard it first!)
1) Intentional – Don’t not play during a transition because you didn’t come up with anything better. If you don’t play in a transition, it should be because you DECIDED to not play during a transition.
2) Artistic – One of the great benefits of music is the art that helps our heart cry to God. If you’re transitioning between songs it can be very helpful to keep it going. If you decide not to play it might be a valuable moment for being “silent” (which is also artistic).
3) Flowful – this might be the most important one. We need to flow from one song to the next. Musical Silence might be the best way. Often it isn’t.
But when it IS the best way and you decide to use it – LISTEN TO THE TIPS OF JAIME BROWN IN THE VIDEO.
He’s right.
